Global Finance has announced its 34th annual ranking of the World’s Safest Banks for 2025.
This year, for the first time, Global Finance has expanded this signature ranking from 50 to 100 banks. This will give our readers an even broader view of global bank safety, and is part of Global Finance’s continuing effort to expand and improve our awards and recognition programs to better serve the banking and financial sector.
The full list of the 100 Safest Banks in the World is included here and will be published in the November print and digital editions, as well as online at GFMag.com.
European banks dominate Global Finance’s rankings once again in 2025, taking the top 10 positions, 14 of the top 25, and more than half of the top 50. Germany’s KfW is #1 for the 16th year in a row.
A total of 27 countries, territories, and districts made the top 100 this year. The United States landed the most, with 11 ranked banks, followed by France with nine, South Korea with eight, and Germany, Canada, and China, all with seven.
“In a year marked by tariff uncertainty, shifting interest rate environments, technological disruption, and heightened regulatory oversight, Global Finance’s World’s Safest Banks have proven their strength as anchors of stability in the global economy. Their resilience and innovation continue to underpin trust in the financial system and support the smooth functioning of global commerce,” said Joseph Giarraputo, founder and editorial director of Global Finance.
Global Finance’s annual rankings of the World’s Safest Banks have been the recognized and trusted standard of financial counterparty safety for more than three decades. Winners were selected through an evaluation of long-term foreign currency ratings—from Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s and Fitch—of the 500 largest banks worldwide.
In addition to the 100 Safest Banks in the world, the full report also includes the following: World’s 50 Safest Commercial Banks; Safest Banks by Country, Territory, and District; 50 Safest Banks in Emerging Markets; Safest Islamic Financial Institutions in the GCC; the Safest Banks in China; and Safest Banks by Region (Africa, Asia, Australasia, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America, and Western Europe).
