Global Finance has named the winners of its sixth annual SME Bank Awards, recognizing the financial institutions that best serve small and midsize enterprises across the globe. The 2027 honorees span more than 80 countries and nine regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Central America, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America, and Western Europe.
The 2027 program also introduces four new global award categories — Best Bank for Women-Owned SMEs, Best Bank for Financial Inclusion in SME Banking, Best Bank for SME Customer Experience, and Best Bank for Agriculture and Rural SMEs — expanding the scope of recognition to reflect the breadth of modern SME banking. A full report on the awards will appear in the November 2026 print and digital editions of Global Finance, and additional coverage will be featured on GFMag.com.
“Small and midsize enterprises create jobs, spark innovation, and hold economies together, yet they often face the steepest barriers to finance,” said Joseph Giarraputo, founder and editorial director of Global Finance. “The Best SME Bank Awards recognize those institutions that give these businesses the capital, tools, and guidance they need to grow and endure.”
Global Finance editors selected the 2027 winners based on independent research and entries submitted by banks — applying a proprietary algorithm that weights criteria such as knowledge of SME client needs, breadth and relevance of products and services, innovation and client experience, and evidence of execution and impact.
This year’s program reflects performance from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. The winners are the institutions that best serve the specialized needs of SMEs in their markets — through strong market knowledge, relevant product design, execution, innovation, and service quality, as well as capabilities spanning credit, payments, trade finance, digital tools, advisory services, and audience-specific solutions that deliver measurable results for SME clients.
Global Finance’s awards and recognition programs are synonymous with editorial integrity, precision, and independence. Celebrated as a benchmark of excellence in the financial sector, they carry a legacy of trust and prestige on which the publication’s corporate and financial audience depends — and on which banks and their partners rely to validate their performance and standing in the market.
