Asian banks dominated the list once again this year, taking 26 total spots. South Korea took the top 3 spots, 8 of the top 15 and 9 total positions. China had 8 banks make the list, including three of the top 10.

The full report also includes the following: World’s 50 Safest Banks, World’s 50 Safest Commercial Banks, Safest Banks by Country, Territory and District, Safest Islamic Financial Institutions in the GCC, and Safest Banks by Region (Africa, Asia, Australasia, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America and Western Europe).

Global Finance’s annual rankings of the World’s Safest Banks have been the recognized and trusted standard of financial counterparty safety for more than three decades. Global Finance evaluates the ratings and total assets of the main players in developing economies to create the rankings—providing an overview of the key banks in each region and which financial institutions offer the greatest security. Banks were selected through an evaluation of long-term foreign currency ratings—from Moody’s, Standard & Poor’s and Fitch Ratings—of the 500 largest banks in the world.

“With the rise of inflation and disturbing bank runs happening in the US and Europe, bank soundness remains the cornerstone of worldwide commerce during these stressful times,” said Joseph Giarraputo, founder and editorial director of Global Finance.

Ratings current as of August 18, 2023/Press Release Issued: September 22, 2023
