A Dynamic And Competitive Economy

Located in the heart of Southeast Europe, Serbia’s investment climate and competitiveness have improved remarkably in recent years, driven by openness to global trade, fiscal discipline, and coordinated public sector reforms in partnership with the IMF. With a population of fewer than 7 million, Serbia also benefits from free-trade agreements granting Serbian products entry into EU markets without customs duties, a well-educated and low-cost English-speaking labor force, and generous investment incentives. Further, the country boasts abundant natural and agricultural resources, as well as a dynamic industrial sector, particularly in automotive manufacturing. Significant potential in sectors such as information technology, healthcare, agribusiness, energy and environmental technologies enhance its appeal and attract foreign capital.

However, challenges persist. State interference in the economy and judiciary, bureaucratic delays and a sizable informal economy pose hurdles to sustained growth. Additionally, Serbia’s ties with Russia and claims over Kosovo’s sovereignty, along with rule of law issues, impede its progress toward EU accession.
