Slovak Republic

Includes historical data for Slovak Republic’s Gross Domestic Product growth, debt-to-GDP ratio and more, as well as information on trade, banking and financial sector leadership.

A Dynamic, Export-Oriented Economy

With a population of approximately 5.5 million, Slovakia boasts a dynamic, heavily export-oriented economy. A member of both the EU and the Eurozone, Slovakia’s strategic location near key Western European markets, skilled workforce, and robust banking sector make it an appealing destination for foreign direct investment (FDI). Slovakia is the world’s largest per capita car producer and a thriving center for consumer electronics industries. Other relevant sectors contributing to the economy are engineering, metallurgy, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, as well as tourism and service industries.

Despite these strengths, the investment climate presents challenges, including a high sensitivity to fluctuations in export demand, a shortage of skilled labor, and tax rates above the regional average.
