UOB Malaysia’s Ng Wei Wei: Malaysia Is a Platform for ASEAN Growth

UOB Malaysia’s CEO discusses what sets the bank apart and why shifting supply chains put Malaysia in a strong position for growth, after the bank was named Malaysia’s Best Bank for the second consecutive year.

Ng Wei Wei, CEO, UOB Malaysia, speaks with Global Finance after the bank was named Malaysia’s Best Bank 2026.

Global Finance has named UOB Malaysia the country’s Best Bank for the second year running. CEO Ng Wei Wei says the award reflects both customer trust and the work of the employees who serve them.

What sets UOB Malaysia apart, she says, is its understanding of the country’s businesses, consumers and economic priorities, paired with a strong regional network. That allows the bank to connect customers with opportunities across ASEAN and support their expansion beyond Malaysia. The goal, she says, is to create long-term value for stakeholders while supporting the country’s economic development.

Ng believes Malaysia is well positioned to benefit as supply chains diversify across Asia, thanks to its established manufacturing base, skilled workforce and strategic location within ASEAN. Over the next one to two years, she sees major opportunities in semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, digital infrastructure and the energy transition. These investments can speed up innovation, bring in new technologies, create quality jobs and help local businesses integrate into regional and global supply chains.

For investors, Ng says, Malaysia offers more than a market to enter. It is a strategic platform for growth and expansion across ASEAN.
