Daimler Names CFO With Sustainability Focus

As a financial executive at Siemens, Eva Scherer has long had sustainability in her sights. As regional CFO, Middle East/Asia-Pacific, she secured projects for Siemens including work on Australia’s Greener Government Buildings program to improve the energy efficiency of government facilities across the country.

As of April 1, Scherer is bringing that sustainability focus to Dailmer Truck Holding as CFO. Following the sudden death of Jochen Goetz in August, she takes over Goetz’s duties overseeing finance and controlling on the executive board.

Daimler CEO Martin Daum, who was interim CFO after Goetz died, praised Scherer’s “broad financial experience” and sustainability expertise. For over two decades, she held various leadership roles within the firm. As regional CFO, she established a Middle East/Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore for Siemens’ building technologies division.

Most recently, she was executive vice president and global head of Investor Relations.

At Daimler, Scherer’s focus on clean energy will continue.

“A topic that has been close to my heart for a long time is sustainable transportation, and I will contribute to this topic in a new capacity,” she said in a social media post.

In recent years, Stuttgart -based Daimler has emerged as one of most prominent manufacturers in the electric vehicle (EV) space. In addition to making heavy and medium-duty electric trucks, it manufactures sustainable school buses and electric walk-in vans. Last year, it launched Rizon, a medium-duty electric truck brand, in the US.

Majority owned by Mercedes-Benz; Daimler is one of three companies behind the US EV Battery Venture. The coalition, which includes commercial truck maker Paccar Inc. and Accelera, a clean energy company, aims to create an infrastructure for battery cell production in the US specifically tailored for commercial EVs.

Scherer maintains an environmental focus outside of the c-suite. As a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, she helped develop the Alliance for Clean Air, a group of multinationals collaborating on improving air quality. At Daimler, she is expected to remain in the CFO role for at least three years through March 2027.
