Economic Strength Powered By Mineral Exports
As a top economy in sub-Saharan Africa, Angola is a major producer of oil and rough diamonds, and has reserves of more than 50 critical minerals. Beyond its extractive resources, this country of about 38 million people has significant economic potential in agriculture, fishing and forestry. Further, Angola has set ambitious goals to diversify its energy production, aiming to generate the majority of its power supply from clean sources by mid-decade.
Angola is also working to improve its investment climate by focusing on governance, human rights and anti-corruption measures. These efforts have led to a significant improvement in its ranking on the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index.
Despite these positive developments, Angola faces several challenges. The business environment is still hampered by a lack of transparency, red tape and the slow pace of reforms. Poor infrastructure and heavy public debt further complicate economic progress. High unemployment, social inequality and poverty rates persist, while a slow and opaque judicial system continues to discourage local and foreign investment.
