EU Sets Rules For AI

European Union regulators impose rules on the use of artifical intelligence.

The European Commission released a list of principles to promote ethical use of artificial intelligence. The nonbinding guidelines include transparency and a commitment to fairness as well as data protection.

“The ethical dimension of artificial intelligence cannot be seen as a luxury option or an ancillary complement,” said Andrus Ansip, the commissioner responsible for the digital single market. The EU will try to hammer out practical applications in a pilot program with international companies and financial institutions that is set to begin this summer.
